Ennis Public Theatre to perform Laugh Theatre

| |

Beginning its 2021 season a return to a litlle bit of normailty, Ennis Public Theatre will perform Laugh Theatre, an hour-long freewheeling selection of comedy vignettes focusing on the little oddities of daily life.

Performances run April 22 through May 2, 2021, with a streaming option for viewing at home.

A play of words on the live theatre concept, Laugh Theatre stars Kate Duckworth, Ennis’ own Julie Mitchell, Andi Alamo, and Markus Baldwin. The ensemble cast presents a series of live and recorded skits that push the everyday into the absurd, reminding audiences that even the most normal of situations aren’t always what they seem.

“We love the collaborative nature of sketch comedy,” said Julie Mitchell, artistic director of the Ennis Public Theatre. “It gives everyone involved a chance to have an input. We laugh all the way through rehearsals.”

Comedy is largely based on the relatable moments everyone has experienced at some point or another. Laugh Theatre plays into those situations ranging from celebrity meetings and dealing with online customer service to being required to tell the truth in the most uncompromising of ways.

All of these routine moments start out innocently before something twists just enough to bound into the unexpected and get the audience’s laughter rolling.

The four-person cast shifts from one character to the next, mixing physical comedy with witty wordplay. The briskly paced scenes shift from one situation to the next as audiences meet married couples, obsessed fans, and that one wedding guest that always has to give an awkward toast.

Halfway through rehearsals, the cast lost a dear friend and castmate in Lane Bulmer. The performance is dedicated to his memory.
